In contemporary times with the growing influence of western culture on the east, the popularity of Christianity kept increasing in China. As a result, the conflict of religious culture turned out to be increasingly noticeable. Wenzhou is no exception. Based on SU Huilian’s A Mission in China, it is argued there were obvious conflicts between Christianity and the local culture in Wenzhou, but there also appeared quite a lot of flexible strategies and means. When Christianity and the local culture interacted with each other in a peaceful, open and rational way, Christian culture could develop in a benign way and it could contribute to regional social and cultural transformation in contemporary China. The research on the conflict, interaction and adaption between Christianity and Chinese culture in late Qing Dynasty is beneficial for us to improve religious harmony.
