Abstract:Xie Lingyun lived in an era coinciding with the flourishing of Buddhism, and he was influenced bythree kinds of Buddhist thoughts: the pure land of Mahayana, the view of Prajna and the Buddha nature of Nirvana,which made much imagery of his landscape poetry show Buddhist colors. Under the influence of the thought of pureland, Xie Lingyun’s landscape poetry imagery presents a kind of solemn and clean color, showing three kinds ofimagery construction: purity, brilliance and encirclement. Under the influence of Prajna’s thought, the imagery of XieLingyun’s landscape poetry is empty and colorless, indicating three kinds of imagery construction: emptiness, chastityand variability. Under the influence of Nirvana thought, Xie Lingyun’s landscape poetry imagery shows the color ofphilosophy, manifesting three kinds of image construction: emotion, enlightenment and Buddhism. By examining theinfluence of Buddhist thoughts on the construction of Xie Lingyun’s landscape poetry, we can clarify Xie Lingyun’sideological path and better understand and interpret the artistic characteristics of his landscape poetry.
